Sewing Circle
What I know about sewing I did some sewing in Home Economics class in middle school. Twice. Once, I made a stuffed ball with the numbers "00" on it, to represent my graduating class year. Then we made a checkered pillow. The teacher told us a tale of how one girl wasn't careful and got her finger pierced by the sewing machine. The principal had to come and unscrew the needle, as she could not take it out. What's the moral here? BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN USING A SEWING MACHINE, BECAUSE THE PRINCIPAL MIGHT HAVE TO COME AND TAKE THE NEEDLE OUT OF YOUR BLEEDING FINGER. I recently saw a movie that had sewing in it. It was called The Dreamlife of Angels and was a movie made by some French people, in France. (Quick FYI! Some Canadians speak French. Morgan is Canadian, but does not speak French. Which makes her one of the better ones.) Anyway, the sewing scenes were very depressing because it was like a sweatshop. The main characters met at the sewing sweatshop. They were some generally depressing people. One of the girls gets fired from the shop because she was sewing some sleeves inside out. What's the moral here? DON'T SEW AND BE FRENCH AT THE SAME TIME.
Lately, I've taken to repairing my clothes rather than just throwing them away. I'm being very good about it, considering I know very little about sewing. One thing, however that I don't think I can repair is one of my favorite sweaters. It's dark blue and very comfy. Good for everything from an morning class to church. Unfortunately, the sleeves are messed up. I tend to pull at the threads when I am bored or uncomfortable. Since these situations tend to show up a lot in morning classes and church, I'm afraid I will no longer have a sleeve. To make matters worse is that the store I bought my beloved sweater in is gone. If anyone has an idea about what to do with messed up sleeves, let me know. My e-mail address is joan[at]rapidfish[dot]org.
The band Sewing With Nancie (who are also Canadian) had to change their name to The Reason recently because there were issues with a show or product line called "Sewing With Nancy". They seem like a nice bunch of boys.
Stay tuned for more sewing lessons from Joan.
Morgan and Knitting
Morgan knits. She had a Site of the Night about it. There are pictures of her knitting floating around Morgan'sHair.Net. So we can assume that she is capable of knitting something, though I'm not sure what that something would be. I've seen knitted coasters. They look pretty neat. I know people can knit sweaters, because I recieved one from a distant relative several years ago. The thought was nice, but white, itchy fabric doesn't do much for me, as I'm sometimes clumsy and tend to spill things, especially foods of the Mexican variety and dark fruit juices. I suppose it is possible to knit a pair of pants, though I've never seen any. My mother knit a blanket once and gave it to me for Christmas two or three years ago. It is dark pink and weighs about 50 pounds. I find it very comforting to curl up with said blanket and watch Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or Wit with a warm cup of lapsang souchong. (Ok, less comforting and more, "I'm gonna die!") Anyway, if anyone knows what Morgan knits, be sure to let me know.
I just want you all to know that I was making fun of France WAY before it was hip and trendy. And not for some stupid reason like, "They don't think we can do whatever the hell we want to, screw 'em." They're french fries and they taste good with mayonaise! | [Index] [Morgan] [Media] [Domination] [Sewing] [About] [Links]
